Correcting Matters Opened Under the Wrong Client
Introduction
Occasionally, a matter may be created under the wrong client in Matters.Cloud. Since matters cannot be transferred between clients, this article outlines the steps to resolve the issue efficiently. It covers creating a new matter under the correct client, transferring work-in-progress (WIP) time and disbursements, and closing the incorrectly assigned matter.
Steps to Resolve
Step 1: Create a New Matter Under the Correct Client
- Navigate to Matters from the left-hand menu to open the Matters board.
- Click New Matter and enter the required matter details.
- Once all information is entered, click Submit to create the new matter.
Step 2: Transfer WIP (Work In Progress) Time to the Correct Matter
- Navigate to Matters from the left-hand menu and select the Matter which was created incorrectly.
- Click on the Time tab.
- Within the Time tab, select WIP (Work In Progress) to view unbilled time entries.
- Select all applicable WIP time entries and click the Transfer button.
- Choose the newly created Matter from the list and click Submit to finalise the transfer.
Step 3: Transfer WIP (Work In Progress) Disbursements to the Correct Matter
- Navigate to Matters from the left-hand menu and select the Matter which was created incorrectly.
- Click on the Disbursements tab.
- Within the Disbursements tab, select WIP (Work In Progress) to view unbilled disbursements.
- Select all applicable WIP disbursement entries and click the Transfer button.
- Choose the newly created Matter from the list and click Submit to finalise the transfer.
Step 4: Close the incorrectly created Matter by Updating Its Status
- Navigate to Matters from the left-hand menu and select the Matter which was created incorrectly.
- Click the Edit button in the drop down to the right of the Matter name.
- Change the Status to Closed and click Submit to finalise the closure.
