Creating A Microsoft 365 Service Account For Use With PatternBuilder

Introduction

NetDocuments requires a service account to set up integration between Microsoft 365 and PatternBuilder.

Using a service account simplifies the setup and management of the integration with Microsoft 365. Rather than having to configure and manage individual user accounts and credentials for PatternBuilder, a single service account can be used to access information within the associated Microsoft 365 tenant.

The service account will then be assigned impersonation rights, which allows ndMail to act on behalf of other users without requiring their credentials.

Steps To Create Service Account

Step 1 - Login to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center

Using your Browser navigate to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and sign into your Office 365 administrator account via the following link:

Step 2 - Navigate to Active Users

Expand the Users menu on the left-hand side and select Active users.

Step 3 - Add a User

Click Add a User.

Enter the required information into the form.

In the Password section, manually set a secure password and uncheck 'Make this user change their password when they first sign in'.

Click the Next button.

Step 4 - Product Licenses

On the product licenses page select the option to Create a user without product license.

Click the Next button to display the optional settings

Note: No changes are typically required for Optional settings.
Click the Next button to display the Review and finish page.

Click the Finish adding button.
