How to Clear the Outlook Add-In Cache for Matters.Cloud for Outlook

Introduction

This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions to help you clear the Outlook add-in cache. Doing this can resolve issues specifically related to the Matters.Cloud for Outlook add-in. These steps apply to the desktop version of Microsoft Outlook on Windows.

Why Clear the Add-In Cache?

The Matters.Cloud add-in stores temporary files to improve performance. Occasionally, these files can cause unexpected behavior—such as the add-in not loading correctly or displaying outdated information. Clearing the cache refreshes the add-in without affecting your emails or Outlook settings.

Step 1: Close Outlook Completely
  1. Ensure that Microsoft Outlook is fully closed before proceeding.
Step 2: Open the Run Dialog Box
  1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard.
Step 3: Navigate to the Add-in Cache Folder
  1. Type the following in the Run dialog box and press Enter%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef.
  2. If you have a different version of Outlook installed, replace "16.0" with your corresponding version number (e.g., "15.0" for Outlook 2013, "14.0" for Outlook 2010).
Step 4: Delete the Cache Files
  1. Select all files and folders inside the Wef folder.
  2. Delete them permanently by pressing Shift + Delete, or move them to the Recycle Bin.
Step 5: Restart Outlook
  1. Open Microsoft Outlook again and check if the issue persists.
Info
Note: The above will clear the cache for all installed outlook addins deployed via either the Microsoft Store or within the Micrsosoft Tenant. This does not apply to older COM based addins. Outlook will automatically refresh any installed addins on the local device but users may need to relogin to each affected service.
